Introduction: Work through the extended walkthrough posted to the wiki for the July 17th-19th classes to learn how to make custom content types in Drupal and then leverage them through views. In completing these exercises, you'll learn how to manipulate two of the most crucial workflows in Drupal. Beyond learning new Drupal skills, this first assignment is meant to be an open ended refresher to CSS – each student is expected to style their CV page into a document that is refined enough that you could present it to a prospective employer. While this assignment is simple technically, getting comfortable with content types and views will serve as the basis of the work that you do for the rest of the semester – take some time to experiment while working towards this deadline.
Assignment: Working with the NineSixty (960 Grid System) theme, develop the display of your CV page so that it is highly refined and personal. Choose appropriate typefaces and styling for headers, subheads and body text. Experiment with background fills, borders and placing your content blocks in the various page regions to develop an attractive and coherent document. All students must work with the assigned theme, assignments executed in other themes will not be accepted.
Evaluation: This assignment is worth 20% of your mark. Students will primarily be evaluated on the overall clarity of their finished CV page in regards to type, layout and readability. Ambition, and ingenuity will also be taken into consideration – feel free to build upon the framework we've constructed. Maybe you want to add more content regions that reflect your interests, links to online projects or add image and multimedia content or experiment with views. Cross browser compatibility will NOT be considered – your page will be examined in the most recent version of Firefox. Note the rubric pointed above for a breakdown of how marks will be allocated within the evaluation.
Submission: Sites will be marked on 9AM on Monday July 30th. It is expected that you will be complete for this deadline and if you will require extra time, you are obligated to email the instructor notifying them that you need an extension. All assignments requiring extra time will be subject to the late penalties detailed on the course outline (10% a day) without accompanying medical/support documentation. Furthermore, failure to complete this assignment on time will handicap your getting starting on the subsequent one, so it is crucial that you are done on time.
Review: Some of you will be asked to briefly present your work to the class on July 31st.
Examples: Note the below submissions from last year – this work received marks in the 85-95% range.
Due: July 30th (9am)
